I’ve recently finished “Lilith’s Brood: The Complete Xenogenesis Trilogy” by Octavia Butler. I’ve been meaning to post something about these books since a friend posted about its author last month, but I kept putting it off. The TLDR here is science fiction by PoC “hits different” for me personally and I need to find someone that has read at least some of this trilogy so we can talk about it. The series doesn’t have a ton of fast-paced action. It instead concerns itself with what happens when some shit goes down and aliens show up. It’s different from other stuff I’ve read because of the way it deals with issues of cultural difference and what it means to be human and survive. That’s just the tip of the iceberg for this story though. This is some good stuff, I wish I would have found it sooner.
Other Books
The Way of Shadows
It starts off kinda slow, but now I’m definitely going to listen to the entire trilogy. I really dig that book is fairly dark, but the main characters still feel heroic. By the end I found myself finding excuses to keep listening, which is always a good thing.
Terms of Enlistment (Frontlines, Book 1)
A good story, but it feels like two independent stories rather than I cohesive whole. Both of the stories are interesting though, so I’ll pick up the rest of the series again at some point.
